Community Alliance Trust – Update

It is now over a year since the Community Alliance Trust (CAT) was set up and began developing its programme of activities in Craigmillar. The Trust has been working away at developing its board and membership and has secured significant funding from the Climate Challenge Fund to set up the Green House Project which is providing energy advice and fuel saving ideas for local people.

CAT is delighted that PARC has recognised us as the preferred bidder for the White House and has asked us to prepare a full business plan for running it as a community hub. Plans are now being developed and will be presented to the PARC board at the end of the year.

CAT is now working with the community to develop the membership of the Trust – membership is open to people living in the Greater Craigmillar area (Craigmillar Community Council area). This enables people to get  involved in  supporting the work of the trust and to take part in the further regeneration of Craigmillar.

To join CAT or for more information please contact info@communityalliancetrust.org.uk or call 0131 657 0500. You can download a CAT membership form here or they are available from the Green House advice shop, the Neighbourhood Alliance Office (at Hays Community Business Centre, 4 Hay Avenue) or through your local Neighbourhood Association.

Get Kitchen Canny – from 15th August

Did you know that the average family in Scotland wastes £430 worth of food every year? To help you reduce food waste and save money we’re running a 4-week Kitchen Canny course at the Green House advice shop.

There will be a coffee morning every week from Monday Aug 15th, 10.30am til noon, where you can get hints, tips and recipe ideas for reducing food waste, as well as share your own ideas over a coffee and some delicious cake.

The coffee mornings are free and informal, but we do encourage people to come along to all four of them if possible to get the best from the course, which includes

  • measuring your current waste and looking at why we should reduce food waste
  • meal planning
  • measuring
  • recipes with left-overs
  • store cupboard essentials

You’ll feel inspired about new ways with food – wasting a lot less and saving money through using all of the food you buy.

We’re really looking forward to this and hope you can join us! You’re welcome to drop in, but you can call us to make sure of a space – 0131 656 9163.
